MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY IN THE SOUTH BAY

Carson, CA ( September 15, 2011) – On Saturday, September 17, 2011, at 12pm, the SouthBay Pavilion, located in 20700 Avalon Blvd,. Carson CA 90746 will celebrate Mexican Independence Day in collaboration with the City of Carson and its elected officials.

The Mexican Independence Celebration kicks off at 12pm with Xipetotech de Lazaro Arvizu, Aztec Dance Group. Other performances include Mariachi Divas, Mariachi Fiesta en Jalisco, Hilos de Plata (Senior Ballet Folklorico), Alma de Oro (Youth Ballet Folklorico), Aztec Stories with Michael Heralda, hosted by Rudy Moreno.

The goal of the Mexican Independence Day Celebration is to commemorate more than 200 years of Independence, help celebrate the cultural traditions of Mexico, and promote higher education among Hispanic youth.

Local vendors and businesses will be at the event to giveaway raffle prizes and promote their services. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Mariachi Divas performs regularly at Disney in Anahiem, CA seven days a week, as their official mariachi band since 2003. In 2009, Mariachi Divas won the Grammy Award for Best Regional Mexican Album of the year for their 2008 release, Canciones De Amor. This marked the first time in the history of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences that an all-female mariachi group had been a nominee, and a winner. Prior to their Grammy award, the Divas performed at several prestigious city and state events, including a February 2008 performance in Sacramento for a luncheon with Governor Schwarzenegger and the President of Mexico.

RUDY MORENO was born & raised in Los Angeles, Rudy grew up in Lincoln Hieghts a tight knit community that has produced many famous actors, singers ,athletes and even a comedian.
