High School Students compete to create a winning social media campaign for SouthBay Pavilion

April 11, 2017 – Carson Calif. SouthBay Pavilion, in partnership with ITEP, launched a Social Media Campaign competition for Carson High School’s Virtual Enterprise International (VEI) class instructed by Ms. Green. The goal is to help advance the students’ understanding of social media marketing in retail. The winners of the contest will receive cash prizes - $750 for the first place; $500 for the second place; $250 for the third place. The final judging will take place on Tuesday, April 18 from 11AM – 12PM at SouthBay Pavilion located at 20700 Avalon Blvd., Carson CA 90746.

The partnership with ITEP was established after SouthBay Pavilion’s marketing team was featured in the VEI class last November 2016. “The level of engagement from the students in Ms. Green’s VEI class during my retail marketing talk was inspiring,” Sweeney Montinola, Marketing Director for SouthBay Pavilion said. “It immediately sparked the idea of creating a competition involving the SouthBay Pavilion brand. This competition was developed to understand social media trends with teens as well as help advance the students’ knowledge about retail and social media marketing.”

SouthBay Pavilion has won multiple ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) MAXI awards for its creative efforts to serve the community. This social media campaign competition is a way for SouthBay Pavilion to provide an educational experience for high school students.

The contest was officially introduced to the VEI class on February 7, 2017. “Some students in my class have won awards for business marketing competitions,” Ms. Green, Instructor for Carson High School’s VEI class said. “SouthBay Pavilion picked the perfect class to invest their time and resources in and we cannot wait to hear all of their ideas.”

ITEP scheduled a field trip to SouthBay Pavilion on March 16, 2017 where student groups received advice for ways they can improve their initial ideas. Three weeks later on April 4, 2017, the preliminary presentations were held at Carson High School and students received additional feedback to prepare them for their final presentation on April 18, 2017.

The final presentation will be held at Center Court inside SouthBay Pavilion. The social media campaigns will be judged based on creativity, wise use of budget, implementation plan, results forecast, marketing plan and presentation delivery. This event is free and open to the public.
